DC Ducks See the city by land and water with this most unusual tour. Traveling in original WW II DUKW amphibious vehicles, this 90 minute tour will take you through the city of Washington before splashing down into the Potomac River. Departures are from Union Station. Tickets cost $32. Segs in the City Cruise DC by one of the coolest ways imaginable... on a Segway! Depatures are from 1100 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW, which is a short walk from the Hotel Washington. One hour tours are $45 and two hour tours are $75. Old Town Trolley If you've requested transportation from the ceremony to the reception, you will get a mini trolley tour, but if you want a longer tour, this "hop on, hop off" tour visits 16 major DC sites. Departures are from Union Station. Tickets cost $32.
Albert Einstein Memorial A mecca to many a Mathlete, this is David's favorite memorial. Part of the excitement is trying to find it and then once you do, standing in the middle of the platform and speaking to Albert. Just try it and see what happens.
Melissa's favorite memorial, this is more of a park than a traditional monument. Visit at night, when the numerous waterfalls and clever lighting make for a surreal experience.
DC's museums are truly a national treasure. And the majority of them are free. We've listed two of our favorites. Check the Smithsonian website, too. National Air and Space Museum Growing up, this was David's favorite museum. He would pretend to be a pilot and navigate his way around the museum. Go early to avoid the crowds.
Melissa fell in love this museum while taking an art history class in college. Unfortunately her professor did not fall in love her final paper on del Castagno's David with the Head of Goliath. What did he know?!?! The man hated Impressionism for goodness sake! |

Cactus Cantina 3300 Wisconsin Avenue, NW Melissa and her DC pals make weekly pilgrimages to this home of the world's best fajitas, chips n' salsa and swirlie margaritas. Ask for Paco as a waiter... he gives extra mints! Pizzeria Uno 3211 M Street, NW Ok, so we know you've been before. But this is the one and only site of our first date. Our recommendation? Take a photo, say "oh, how cute" and then head across the street to Pizzeria Paradiso for some scrumptious local pies. The Tombs 1226 36th Street, NW Make like Norm and Cliff and head to the Hoya version of Cheers. It's dark and noisy with a slight scent of beer in the air. What's not to love?!? Actually, the food is great and you can even pick up a cool t-shirt. Thomas Sweet 3214 P Street, NW We knew it was meant to be when we realized that we both had the same favorite ice cream flavor - Peppermint Stick! This ice cream and fudge shop makes our favorite version, plus a million more homemade flavors. Downtown (near the reception site) Hotel Washington 515 15th Street, NW If you're looking to dine with a magnificent view of the monuments, head to the top floor of this hotel. This is a great place for lunch or a drink, plus you can wave to the secret service guys on top of the White House.
713 H Street, NW Actually located in Chinatown (about a 20 minute walk from the Hotel Washington) this restaurant is housed in a rehabbed 15 foot-wide row house. The mini burgers, pizza and salads are awesome, but the waits can be long.
675 15th Street, NW This is the oldest bar and grill in DC and has the crowds to prove it. Nonetheless, the atmosphere is fun and the food is fresh. Order the local favorite, a Chesapeake Bay crab cake, and start talking politics. |

7th Street and North Carolina Avenue, SE One of two of the remaining old DC markets (the other is now Dean & Deluca in Georgetown) this is at its prime in September when the farmers from West Virginia bring in all types of fresh apples to sample. You can also buy local art, soaps, jewelry, flowers and foods. The market runs on Saturday and Sunday, but early Saturday is the best time to go. Georgetown Head to the corner of M Street and Wisconsin Avenue, NW and begin your assault. The neighborhood features a plethora of stores for all types including Zara, Barney's, H&M and many local specialty shops. You can even tap into your inner-glam rocker at Commander Salamander! |

The perfect place for a walk or a run, this canal and tow path start in Georgetown and goes all the way to western Maryland. Glen Echo This old amusement park is now a community of artist studios. Take a picnic lunch and watch glass blowing, jewelry making and pottery demonstrations. Great Falls For one of the best are hikes, head to the Maryland side of the falls and the Billy Goat trail. When David was a young lad, he used to hike this trail with his dad and brother. For a less strenuous hike, walk along the tow path. |
